Vladimir Dubossarsky & Alexander Vinogradov

About works

The work of Vladimir Dubosarsky and Alexander Vinogradov is very contemporary. With their paintings the idealistic dreams of Socialist Realism become a glorification of idols created by a society of mass consumerism: Stallone and Schwarzenegger, Andy Warhol and Spider Man, Mickey Mouse and Barbie, etc., etc. In their project 'Fight Without Rules' they explore the mass-media cliché of the Russian soul and Russian reality: daredevilry and intoxication, ice holes and 'valenki' felt boots, the samovar and Russian beauties, plus an enigmatic giraffe on the horizon… By hyperbolising and inflating stereotypes of Russianness characteristic of both the view from outside and notions cultivated inside, Dubosarsky and Vinogradov strive for ultimate articulation of the phenomenon. At the same time the artists counterbalance this with their redeeming irony.
